Record-breaking Attendance at ‘Welcome to Rockville’ 2023 Delights Fans and Boosts Daytona Beach Economy

An enduring rock music aficionado, Steve Chmielewski, rates ‘Welcome to Rockville’ as one of the greatest live events he’s ever witnessed. Chmielewski, who owns Steve’s Downtown Music in DeLand, joined approximately 170,000 fans at the four-day metal fest at Daytona International Speedway. The event received glowing reviews from him and many others. Chmielewski particularly relished performances by Deftones, Coheed and Cambria, The Mars Volta, and the closing act, Tool. He shared his enjoyment of the entire festival, stating, “I explored every bit of it.” This year’s festival set a new record, surpassing the previous peak attendance of 161,000 in 2021 when Rockville moved from Jacksonville to Daytona Beach. Daytona Beach’s hotel industry also profited from the rock music extravaganza. Bob Davis, president and CEO of the Lodging & Hospitality Association of Volusia County, reported a boost in occupancy rates and robust daily rates throughout the event. Davis expressed his appreciation for the event and its fans, praising them for their positive influence on local businesses. This year’s event was blessed with favorable weather conditions, a significant factor contributing to its success, compared to last year when severe storms led to cancellations of performances by the festival’s headlining acts. Apart from a short rain delay on the opening day, the rest of the festival went off without a hitch. The agreeable weather played a crucial role in maximizing the positive impact on local tourism. Jim Berkley, general manager at the 744-room Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort, stated, “The weather was the difference maker, great weather all weekend vs. last year’s heavy rains and delays.” The good news extends to the 2024 edition of ‘Welcome to Rockville’, as the festival’s promoter, Los Angeles-based Danny Wimmer Presents, plans to announce details about next year’s festival this summer. Chamie McCurry, chief marketing officer, confirmed, “We’ll be announcing 2024 dates this summer, and hope to do a full lineup before the end of the year.” #WelcomeToRockville #RockFestival #DaytonaBeach #MusicFestival #electricwebservices #volusiainfo #eventsdaytona
